About Office of Criminal Conflict and Civil Regional Counsel

The Office of Criminal Conflict and Civil Regional Counsel (RC1) was established in 2007 to represent indigent clients in criminal cases where the Public Defender’s office faces a conflict of interest. We also serve as the first line of defense for parents entitled to legal representation in dependency cases.

RC1 employs 137 full-time staff members across North Florida. Our casework is approximately 83% criminal and 17% civil.

Our attorneys are highly experienced, with an average of over 18 years of legal practice. Together with our dedicated support staff, they are committed to delivering the highest quality legal services to our clients

Eligibility and Requirements

Internships

  1. Prospective interns must be enrolled in an accredited ABA law school or a current college student.
  2. Unpaid internships are available for those seeking academic credit during the fall, spring, or summer terms.
  3. Law students participating in pro bono programs, law school clinics, or externships are encouraged to apply. Documentation from the sponsoring institution is required.

Certified Legal Intern

  1. Graduates or those who will have completed their studies before their preferred term may apply for Certified Legal Intern (CLI) positions.
  2. Those interested in participating in the certified legal intern program should review the Florida Supreme Court process linked here and ensure they qualify.
